this is what happened when keimpe koldijk (one half of bebe fang) and wouter venema (musician and visual artist) locked themselves up during the summer 2011 in a 14th century church in the village of blessum. this frisian village, in the northern part of holland, consists of less then 100 inhabitants. in this tranquil and withdrawn environment the musicians recorded their improvisations on the church organ (which is the second oldest in europe)... accompanied with subtle electronics and a few other instruments... the result is a stunning experience of free spirited music ... meditative soundscapes, lo-fi ambient music and drones including accidental recorded sounds of the surroundings during the sessions... all of this has a charming lo-tech and -live- feeling which only enhances the listening experience... turn off the lights, light a candle (or a few), lie down and let go.

georgia-born, brooklyn-based sophia saze set up dusk & haze to release ‘genre-free’ experimental music, exhibited in the label’s debut release entitled ’solace’ ep featuring four versatile cuts from sophia herself and twisted electro and techno remixes from umwelt and benjamin damage. the second release comes from the enigmatic sdx, a masked artist who’s fiercely championed left-of-centre dance music for decades. crunchy drums and a thumping bassline kick things off in ‘ms 04’ before los angeles duo 138 provide an outstanding remix incorporating a cacophony of raw breaks. modulated flutters, warped blips and white noise create ‘ms 08’, leading into the organic drums and off-kilter arpeggios of ‘007’ until new york’s sc- 164 reworks ‘007’ delivering a pulsating sub and distorted vocal chops. sdx’s ‘nocturnal’ drops on dusk & haze on 10th september 2018.

amish boy aka sküge (not to be confused with skudge) is hugues croibien, a thirty seven year old belgian who has experimented with electronic music since his teens. with a diet of seal phüric, the prodigy, autechre and unit moebius stoking his primordial fire, croibien began to align with the rage that exists in the breakcore genre. already an addict of reggae and dub at this time, croibien decided to create some cut-up raggacore with his brand new ableton live 3 software. meanwhile with friends, croibien created break n brol, a non-lucrative association which tried to promote alternative electronic music in liège where he lived. they premiered some bassline stars kanji kinetic and -squire of gothos- on the belgian scene, alongside other alternative electronic composers and musicians like subjex, ebola, mustard gunn and herrmutt lobby. the fellowship decided to create a free net label to release compilations with the bnb party artists. the rough style techno resurgence over the last few years has precipitated a metamorphosis, sküge became amish boy more glitchy than techno, more offbeat than acid and more ambivalent than industrial. although heavily invested for two decades now, laika test project on power vacuum will be croibiens first vinyl release, with a follow-up already in the pipeline.

dan stielow mortazavi has an outer edged family background and a long testament in music starting in his teens with his first recorded project the product that was self released to cassette back in 1983. three decades later it saw a vinyl release on the dark entries label. the debut spite cathedral lp is made with his long-time musical partner karsten svendsen (to feed on others, hinsidan, ate23) and is released with a free bonus 7” on bodies on july 2nd. ultra minimalism streaming from the darkest of places still with a presence of a cold, cold love. with sparse elements they create dramatic scenery. industrial beats backed with something that sounds like hostage jazz and rock drummers fused with the loneliest of themes, epic at times and oh so broken at others. touching topics of man’s inhumanity, paranoid misinterpretations, the fragility of the mind, sex and broken homes without mouthing a single word.

continuing on from the success of dfr001and their cutting edge acid house nights the downfall crew smack you right between the eyes once again with another raw, jackin’ red hot release. the hydrochloric substance ep. it’s not surprising as all of them are veterans of the 1980’s london acid house scene and quite frankly nobody knows it better. the......ep hits you right between the eyes and carries on straight from the last release, this time also incorporating the likes of type 303 and nuff trip along with consequence and the auditor.

volume 11 of the masterworks music journey comes in the form a four track e.p. of edit gold from russian producer, valique. ‘it s hot heavy boogie edit opens up proceedings, laying down a guitar driven, synth boogie gem, heavy on the squelchy top lines, weighty bass and full-frontal female vocals. think about it not too long edit then takes you into peak time disco territory - sun drenched, beefed up, filtered and phased for maximum dancefloor vibrations. flip it over and you re hit with an infectious guitar lick and bumping bass from the off on one chain makes no prison edit , before that killer vocal joins the party. finally, rounding off the e.p. hypnotizing wanna be free edit treads a more late-night path with a hypnotising vocal sample coupled with panned cosmic pads and percussion, sure to entrance any crowd it s put before.

benjamin vigneron, also known as vronsky, was born in 1991 in aix-en-provence, france. as a teenager, drawn simultaneously to visual arts, cinema and music production, he made his first contact with techno by working for a local club as a graphic designer. during his 20s, while living between montreal, canada and marseille, france, it was revealed to benjamin he suffered from a heavy bipolar disorder. as a reaction, he started losing himself in free parties and increasingly dangerous habits. gradually learning to love himself despite his flaws, he kicked his risk-taking after he realized the love of music prevailed over anything else. equipped with a strong desire to share his vision despite not being able to perform as a dj, benjamin started a youtube channel and a collective named listening blue.
